Pakistan mourns loss of legendary actor Zia Mohyeddin

Tributes pour in from people from all walks of life

Pakistanis are grieving the loss of one of the country’s most talented actors, Zia Mohyeddin, who passed away at the age of 91. The actor, producer, director and TV broadcaster was President Emeritus of the National Academy of Performing Arts (NAPA) and had been awarded the Hilal-e-Imtiaz, the second-highest civilian honor in the country, for his contribution to the field of art.

Netizens, activists, journalists, and celebrities alike are expressing their shock and sadness at the news of Mohyeddin’s passing. Many consider themselves lucky to have met the great man in their lifetimes and are calling it the end of an era.

Singer Salman Ahmed of Junoon said Mohyeddin’s death has left a huge void, while RJ Anoushey Ashraf and actor Tooba Siddiqui mourned the “massive loss”. Actor Yasir Hussain stated that Pakistan has lost its voice with Mohyeddin’s death, while other actors such as Junaid Khan, Sami Khan, Adnan Malik and Zhalay Sarhadi offered their condolences and prayers.

Mira Sethi, another prominent Pakistani actor, remembered Mohyeddin by sharing a photo she took of him during rehearsals for King Lear.

The late actor-director will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
