Banking court summons ex-PM in person

An Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) in Islamabad has refused to grant an extension of pre-arrest bail to former prime minister Imran Khan in the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) protest case.

The judge, Justice Hassan, stated that the case could not be stretched for an “indefinite period.”

The court had earlier summoned Imran to appear in person for the hearing. However, Imran’s lawyer, Babar Awan, stated that his client had attempted to attend the hearing but was unable to do so.

In a separate case, Imran has been summoned to appear in person in the Islamabad banking court for his alleged involvement in prohibited funding. However, the Islamabad High Court (IHC) has temporarily halted the banking court from taking further action until February 22.

During the hearing, the banking court adjourned the case until February 18, citing a lack of evidence as the reason for the adjournment.

Imran’s legal troubles have been ongoing, with a number of cases being filed against him in recent years. However, his supporters maintain that the cases are politically motivated, with the former prime minister being targeted by his opponents.

The cases have added to the already-tense political climate in Pakistan, with Imran’s supporters calling for justice while his opponents accuse him of corruption and other wrongdoing. As the legal proceedings continue, it remains to be seen what the future holds for Imran and his political career.
