Senior judge believes system can be improved if everyone fulfills their duties

The senior puisne judge of the Supreme Court, Justice Qazi Faez Isa, expressed his frustration towards frequent strikes by lawyers and suggested cancelling their licenses.

According to a local news outlet, Justice Isa was hearing a case related to a local factory’s theft of gas worth over Rs67 million on Monday.

The trial court’s order noted the absence of the lawyers in the court, stating that they did not appear due to their strikes, which sparked the judge’s annoyance.

Justice Isa stated that it was unacceptable for lawyers to go on strike and that their licenses should be revoked if they do not follow the code of conduct established by themselves.

The judge also criticized the removal of judges who record the strike of lawyers and expressed annoyance at not being informed of the reason behind the strikes.

He suggested that the country’s system could improve if everyone fulfilled their duties and emphasized that the code of conduct was not made by the judges or parliament, but by the lawyers themselves.

Justice Isa went on to say that the court follows the Constitution and law but ultimately justice is in the hands of Allah.

The two-member bench of the apex court, headed by Justice Isa, dismissed the factory’s appeal.
