Ex-PM calls on army to internally reflect on what had happened

Former prime minister Imran Khan has called for an internal military inquiry against General (retd) Qamar Javed Bajwa, the former army chief, for his alleged involvement in the ousting of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government.

In a recent interview with Voice of America Urdu, Imran claimed that the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM), and the military establishment all played a role in removing his government from power.

Imran was referring to General Bajwa’s recent remarks, which were published in a column by Javed Chaudhry, where the former army chief allegedly acknowledged that he did not intervene to save Imran’s government. General Bajwa was quoted as saying that “these people (the PTI) were dangerous for the country”.

In response to these remarks, Imran stated that there should be an internal military inquiry into General Bajwa’s actions, as he “proudly and arrogantly” admitted to making the decision to oust the PTI government, claiming that it was necessary for the protection of the country

The PTI chief added that the army should internally reflect on the consequences of these actions, which have created a distance between the people and the military establishment.

Furthermore, Imran emphasized that the general’s admission confirmed the suspicions of many citizens who believed that the military was involved in the removal of the PTI government. He stressed that the army must now take responsibility for its actions and address the nation’s concerns.
